INVOLVED IN THE ACTIVITY

Mélanie

Founder, fashion designer

When I was a teenager in Nancy, after wearing my father's trousers, I made my own fashion items and customised them. During this period, I personalised everything. As a screen printer at Goéland, I coloured a range of stickers for 'triiad'. Trained by the pattern maker Ms Bordage, pattern maker at Mugler and Ms Serot, I became a professional in industrial and made-to-measure clothing. I design clothes under the influence of customisation, where I apply my colours and patterns using different methods. Each creation is born from a world of simple details. At the same time, over time, I transform second-hand clothes for myself and my customers.

The major turning points :

In Metz, in the east of France, Mélanie obtained a diploma from the S.E.M.A. (Société d'encouragement aux métiers d'art) on the concept of 'creating your own support with your motifs'. To sign her couture creations, the IUM brand was founded in 2003. Then, in 2004, she founded the screen-printing association, l'atelier du panda, which opened its workshop in residence at the annexe of the M.J.C des 3 maisons in Nancy. In 2009, an ium wear boutique separated the customisation and design activities. The printed textile creations are presented in the 'atelier-couture' concept shop and the online shop. The association continues to promote screen printing in Nancy on its own. In 2011, the association took over two sewing workshops, perfecting its service of advising customers on their 'well being'. Depending on their needs and morphology, they have access to the brand's boutique but can also repair or create their own clothes. Each new collection is made locally in Nancy and can also be viewed on the online shop. Until 2014, when the website was extended to include tutorials on how to make models and recycle through upcycling. A workshop opened on Reunion Island one year later, transforming customers' clothes. Now you can find our fabric, wallpaper, clothing and accessories design services as well as our upcycling coaching in metropolitan France.
